Unfinished product. Dont buy it

This game is suposed to be like the old xbox version. But when you arrive at the first dialog choice you are stuck. There is nothing to select. It is a bug just at the begining of this game. Officially the company is aware of this and "they are working on it". In the mean time there is no note about it when you purchase this product. So by aware and Do not buy this crappy product !!!

Very humorous right from the start

This game has a great sense of humour. However, as poited out, there is a glitch/bug with the display of your dialog options. Two masks are supposed to show at the top of the screen to indicate a humorous/polite response and a snarky response. They do not show up until youve left the tavern after the first quest (that totals about 4 responses). You can get around it by moving the cursor from the right edge clicking as you go (to get the humorous response) or from the left edge to get the snarky. As I mentioned, once you are outside the tavern, it seems to work right. Id recommend the game mainly due to its humour: I laugh and chuckle quite a bit while playing it.

The Bards Tale

I am enjoying the game. Well worth the price. There is a fix on the website that you follow to fix the bug in this game. It is easy to do and the game then runs fine. I have had no trouble so far running or playing this game. I wish that this game was like the original PC version, but it seems like a whole new game all together. Still it is a good RPG. I would highly recommend for the next Bards Tale to have it similar to original as much as possible. I feel a lot of us might enjoy it even more if the game had an old school feel to it.

A great game!

If youre tired of same-old same-old dungeon crawls, then this is a game youll enjoy. It balances fine game play with intelligent humour in a manner that is thoroughly engaging. It runs well on my year-old iMac, but also runs surprisingly well on my older and very basic MacBook. It is not the Bards Tale that played on the old Apple ][e, and thank goodness for that--this version is bright, funny and lots of fun. There was a problem with an update that lost my saved game, but all it took was a single email to customer support to get me a script that recovered my game. The reply from customer support was quick and courteous, and the fix was most effective, recovering all the saves for my game. As far as Im concerned, purchasing this game was money well spent, and I recommend it most highly.

Nice

Awesom game but I have ran into a glitch of some sort were I talk to the shop keeper in Kirkwall and when I try exist, the game just keeps re activating the talk option with the shop keeper over and over so I cant walk away, basically I get stuck in a loop.

Decent fun

Not bad - some funny lines. Cant skip the cut scenes which is a pain, and its a pretty linear game. Boss battles arent all that challenging, but all in all not a bad way to waste some time.

Horribly produced game; had high hopes for it

I will start off by saying that I was looking forward to a good RPG for my Mac until Baldurs Gate comes out November 30th, 2012, and had seen this game with 4-stars listed out of 5. So I figured what the heck, Ill give it a shot for $9.99. Unfortunately the game completely let me down. Controls: Although you can program them, they are extremely difficult to control. I truly mean extremely hard to control. This game requires a controller at the very least. Your standard apple mouse and keyboard will not do. Its doesnt stop there… There are so many controls, it is very hard to keep track of everything. Graphics/View: The graphics are impressive. Beautifully built and rendered. Unfortunately, its hard to see everything due to the controls, and youre stuck constantly trying to maneuver your mouse and keyboard controls all at once just to see in the direction your character is looking. A major flaw for sure. Of course, as youre trying to control your view, youre getting killed by monsters in the process. Story: The story line seems weak and doesnt get you into the game all to easily. Definitely rated 16+ for content as well. Setup time: It took me about 30 minutes to get the game setup to the way I wanted it to be with controls, etc. Unfortunately as mentioned above, the controls are still impossible to operate with two hands. Overall: I would not recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a fun, simple, well displayed RPG or any other format for that matter. The developers of this game and all games in general truly need to think about the ease of controls for players on a Mac or PC before creating it, or just leave it for Xbox/Playstation.

Great game, has a few issues.

Love the game, absolutely enjoyable. There are a few glitches or bugged conversations, but these are offset by plentiful save locations. If you get stuck, simply alt+cmd+esc to force quit and restart the game, at most, I may have lost 30 seconds of playing time per glitch, far from being a game breaker. In-App purchases may be fun, but not necessary in the least. Highly recommended.

game crashes in dialog, patch doesn

dont buy - game crashes in dialog, patch doesnt work on OX 10.8, very frustrating.

Just great!

I know some commented that the application was buggy. I did not experienced that at all. Everything worked as expected. Lots of fun for the n-th time. Certains ont écrit que lapplication était bogguée. Je nai rien vu de tel. Tout fonctionne tel que prévu. Jadore toujours autant jouer ce jeu! Merci

Great fun for little coin

This game is worth every penny. The music, voice and sound effects are premium. The game play, graphics and story are much better then titles three times the price. Playing the old Trilogy reminds me of the vintage gaming I did playing these titles on my Commodore 64. Having a blast!

Fun game, nice dialogue, buggy controls

The game is fun and the storyline is awesome. I am experiencing buggy controls, characters continues running in a direcction indefinitely. I have to Cmd Tab, then go back to the game.

Great fun, just like back in the 80s

Im really enjoying this new Mac port. I havent played The Bards Tale since I had it on my old Apple //gs, so this was fun to get the old trilogy and the new content. Being able to sync the new story between my Mac and iPhone is fantastic as well. Overall a great job. The humor and wit and sillyness of the game makes it all worthwhile as well, let alone the great cinematics and dialog.

Currently barely playable

The game looks like it will be a lot of fun, at some point in the future when its working properly. Currenlty subtitle choices often dont show up, and I think many onscreen icons are missing. The online manual references icons to click on that Im not finding. Only through trial and error, and blindly clicking on black areas hoping to select a choice am I able to advance the story and/or figure out what is going on. On a related note, the controls seem clunkhy, and there doesnt appear to be a way to just use ASDW to control your self. You have to point and click with the mouse to get around which grows tiresome after a while. Hopefully they get the interface/UI working, because right now its really hurting what looks like it would otherwise be a very fun game.

Great

If the game locks up on you after your first mission, go to the inXile Bards Tale OSX support website and follow the directions for a workaround. This game is a ton of fun!

Has Potential but Not Quite There Yet

I want to like the game and I am enjoying parts of it but I noticed that cut-scenes are not playing (just black screens) and the overall performance is slow: the character moves slowly on screen, the transitions from one map to another are slow. It needs to be faster and the cut scenes need to be visible. Im running this on a MacBook Pro 17" with a 2.66 Ghz i7, 8 GB of memory, and an Intel HD Graphics 288 MB graphics card.

Not Working

It seems you need a game pad to play this game - cannot get the weapons to arm, a number of the menu items are not working and it crashes frequently about 5 minutes in. It looks like it might be interesting if they can fix it so you can actually play it.

WILL be great

The Mac version is broken. The snarky and nice indicators dont show up on screen, making it impossible to get past mary in the tavern, on the First level. Also, the controls make it inpossible for a player to use "WASD" for movement and the track pad for camera. Fixing that, or making it available in the next update would be a nice feature as well. I love this game, i have it for xbox and would love to not have wasted $10 on this so i could play it on my mac. *UPDATE* I talked to one of the techies and they told me how to fix the bug. What is supposed to happen at that point in the scene (Where everyone has to stop) is two theater mask icons appear at the top of the screen in the black bar (or text choices in some cases). The one on the left is smirking (Snarky), and the one on the right is smiling (Nice). Clicking one or the other lets you choose how the Bard will reply to the character in the scene--Snarky or Nice. You cannot continue without making a selection with the mouse (or buttons if using a gamepad). Whats happening for everyone is those two icons Arent appearing. How to fix (Until the next update, i hope): from in game (I.e. any point when youre actually capable to move around, or are in dialouge with another player. NOT at the start menu): Hold the "Left Shift" button then press Left+Right+Left+Right+Up+Up+Down+Down on the directional pad. When prompted for a code, enter wupeg@new This will take away the black bars from either side of the screen and you will see the faces and be able to continue. Problem Solved!

Great Game - Fun to play

I really like this game. I did get stuck where everyone seems to be having problems, but I applied the temporary fix from The Bards Take Support Page - and it worked. I continued with my adventure and, so far, no more problems. Also the design of the game seems to be very good so I plan to be playing this a lot longer than other RPGs.

Ugh, please fix

Like everyone else has been saying, this game was released with a pretty bad bug, but I remember playing this game on Xbox a couple years ago and having a blast. Hopefully they will release a fix it up patch soon. When they do and if it works you are going to enjoy this game definitly. Keep checking back!
